iBooks and Kindle Apple and Amazon both offer book reading apps for iPad. Each app has its benefits and advantages. iBooks supports PDF files and (arguably) does a better job of presentation than Kindle. However, if you have already made purchases from Kindle, or you also have a Kindle device, you'll want the Kindle app as well. Fortunately, there's no need to choose. Kindle and iBooks apps are both available free from the App Store. (Free, apple.com/ipad/built-in-apps/ibooks.html, kindle.com)
