RIM to buy QNX Software Add to ...

Research In Motion is buying QNX Software Systems, an Ottawa-based company with technology that helps bring the Internet to cars.

QNX's technology can be used to deliver wireless broadband services such as Internet radio, video-on-demand and navigation to vehicles.

The companies didn't disclose what RIM is paying for QNX, which Research In Motion is acquiring from Harman International .

RIM co-chief executive Mike Lazaridis says his company and QNX will be working to integrate the use of smart phones and vehicle audio and infotainment systems.

RIM's BlackBerry products are among the world's most successful smart phones but face intense and growing pressure from rivals such as Apple's iPhone.
