Despite a lot of gab in recent years about the decline of International CES (formerly called the Consumer Electronics Show), it is still a must-attend showcase of the hot gadgets heading to market over the next 12 months. The Las Vegas convention is the largest event of its kind, and is expected to match last year's attendance of more than 156,000 executives, purchasing managers, engineers, marketers, journalists and others industry types.

Globe and Mail technology reporter Omar El Akkad is bravely attempting to cover most of the 33 football fields worth of pavilions, and reporting live on the awesome, the absurd and the plainly confusing things he sees.
