China's ZTE Corp is aiming for another 30-40 percent jump in cellphone sales this year, and is focusing increasingly on the smartphone market, a senior official said.

To boost its position in the smartphone market, the firm launched new models on Monday and a tablet running Google's Android software.

ZTE sold around 60 million cellphones last year, 34 percent more than a year earlier, making it the world's fourth-largest cellphone maker.

It has quickly won market share mostly at the low end of the market from market leader Nokia with very aggressive pricing, and now the top smartphone makers are in its crosshairs.

"This is a classic example of Android turning the traditional mobile phone market on its head and wrongfooting established players," said Ben Wood, head of research at British consultancy CCS Insight.

Lin Qiang, president of ZTE's handset business in Europe, said the firm aimed to increase sales volumes at the high end of the market to more than 10 million from around 2 million last year.

That rapid growth is boosted by rising demand for the firm's flagship ZTE Blade model, sales of which it sees rising to around 2 million from 500,000 last year.

On Monday it unveiled the Skate model with a large, 4.3-inch screen, and the Amigo model, which is focused on social networking.
