In photos: BMW reveals details of M2
We've seen the prototype testing on the Nurburgring Track, but until today didn't know much about the car. But BMW has finally taken the wraps off the 2016 BMW M2 and it will come with a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine that makes 365-horsepower and 343 lb-ft of torque. The M2 will replace the 1 Series M Coupe, which came with less horsepower, but more torque. The car will come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, but 0-100 km/h time is improved by 0.2 seconds to 4.3 seconds, when opting for the seven-speed DCT gearbox. The Porsche 911 Carrera S is just 0.1 seconds faster. Top speed on the M2 is electronically limited to 250 km/h. The M2 has a more aggressive styling with wide fender flares on all four corners, a sculpted bumper and four exhaust tips. The design reduces lift by 35 per cent and drag by 5 per cent as compared to the regular 2 Series. The M2 comes with a number of features, including the GoPro app, which "allows the driver to record fast laps of the track with a dashboard-mounted action camera, using the iDrive Controller and Control Display," reads a statement. The car is connected so "information on speeds and braking points can be shared easily via e-mail or Facebook." The M2 is expected to go on sale early next year. Pricing hasn't been announced.
