Will Power wheels James Hinchcliffe from hospital on Wednesday, May 27.

James Hinchcliffe is not only a fast racer, but also a fast healer. The Canadian IndyCar Series driver was released from hospital in Indianapolis Wednesday, 10 days after he crashed during practice for the Indianapolis 500.

Hinchcliffe left IU Health Methodist Hospital in a wheelchair being pushed by 2014 IndyCar champ Will Power.

"I'll be knocking out 5ks in no time!" Hinchcliffe tweeted from his hospital bed on May 22. "Long recovery ahead but lucky to be surrounded by the best friends, family, colleagues, medical staff and safety workers on Earth."

Hinchcliffe's No. 5 Honda hit a wall at 367 km/h because of a front suspension failure during practice on May 18. A rocker arm on the vehicle punctured his leg and upper thigh and he was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery.

Hinchcliffe is expected to make a full recovery but when he will return to competition is uncertain. IndyCar medical officials have not yet given him clearance.

Aussie Ryan Briscoe replaced Hinchcliffe, finishing 12th in the Indianapolis 500 on May 24. American Conor Daly will take Hinchcliffe's place this weekend at the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit.
