The 2017 Cadillac XT5 luxury crossover is the cornerstone of a new series of crossovers in the brand’s ongoing expansion.

What is it?

The 2017 Cadillac XT5 is the renamed and re-engineered mid-size crossover from the Cadillac of car brands.

Signature feature

The engineering revolution continues at Cadillac. Despite the fact that the XT5 is larger and roomier than the SRX it replaces, it's also lighter. The drivetrain features a new eight-speed automatic transmission and a new "twin-clutch" AWD system.

What else is new?

The name – the XT5 is the latest vehicle to adopt the new naming convention. In other news, the exterior design of the XT5 brings this vehicle up to date with the angular standards set by the ATS, CTS and CT6. The interior boasts a more responsive CUE infotainment system, a response to criticism that the innovations here have been less than intuitive.

Under the hood

It has the same 3.6-litre V-6 (310 hp; 270 lb-ft) that can be found in the Cadillac ATS and CTS and in the forthcoming CT6. The engine features cylinder deactivation, which allows the XT5 to run on just four cylinders under light loads.

When can we buy it, and for how much?

The XT5 will go on sale in Canada in late spring 2016.
