A daily rundown of the economic reports and corporate earnings that will be grabbing the market's attention in the week ahead.

Monday Dec. 15

Japan releases the Tankan Manufacturing Survey.

(9 a.m. ET) Canada existing home sales in November, forecast to rise 4.0 per cent from a year earlier. Average prices are forecast to rise 4.0 per cent from a year ago as well.

(9 a.m. ET) MLS Home Price Index. It's forecast to rise 5.3 per cent from a year earlier.

(915 a.m. ET) U.S. industrial production for November, forecast to rise 0.7 per cent. Capacity utilization is expected to come in at 79.3 per cent.

(10 a.m. ET) U.S. National Association of Homebuilders housing market index. It's forecast at 58.

Earnings include: VeriFone Systems, Avanir Pharmaceuticals.

Tuesday Dec. 16

HSBC Manufacturing PMI for December.

Euro area releases the composite PMI for December and manufacturing PMI, as well as the October trade surplus. Germany releases the ZEW Survey for this month.

(830 a.m. ET) Canada manufacturing sales for October, forecast to fall 0.5 per cent.

(830 a.m. ET) U.S. housing starts for November, forecast to rise 3.1 per cent to an annualized rate of 1.040 million.

(830 a.m. ET) U.S. building permits, forecast to decline 2.9 per cent to an annualized rate of 1.060 million.

(945 a.m. ET) Markit U.S. flash manufacturing PMI for December.

FOMC meeting begins.

Earnings include: Darden Restaurants, Navistar International.

Wednesday Dec. 17

Greece's Presidential Election (Round 1 of 3)

Japan trade deficit for November.

Euro area releases CPI.

(830 a.m. ET) Canada wholesale trade for October. It's forecast at unchanged.

(830 a.m. ET) U.S. current account deficit for the third quarter. Consensus is for a deficit of $97.6-billion.

(830 a.m. ET) U.S. consumer price index for November. It's forecast to be up 1.4 per cent from a year ago, or up 1.8 per cent when excluding food and energy.

(2 p.m. ET) FOMC announcement on interest rates and summary of economic projections.

(230 pm. ET) Fed Chair Janet Yellen's quarterly press briefing.

Earnings include: Carnival, FedEx, General Mills, Jabil Circuit, Joy Global, Oracle.

Thursday Dec. 18

Germany Ifo Survey for December.

(830 a.m. ET) U.S. initial jobless claims for December for last week, forecast to rise 1,000 to 295,000.

(10 a.m. ET) U.S. to releases the Philadelphia fed index and leading indicators.

Earnings include: Accenture, ConAgra Foods, Nike, Red Hat, Rite Aid, Winnebago Industries, Worthington Industries.

Friday Dec. 19

Bank of Japan concludes a two-day monetary policy meeting.

Japan also releases department store sales and its leading indexes.

Germany producer price index for November and GfK consumer confidence. Italy releases industrial orders.

(830 a.m. ET) Canada consumer price index for November. It's forecast to rise 2.3 per cent from a year earlier. Core CPI is forecast to rise 2.5 per cent.

(830 a.m. ET) Canada retail sales for October. It's forecast to fall 0.2 per cent, or, when excluding the auto sector, rise 0.2 per cent.

Earnings include: BlackBerry. The Street expects an adjusted loss in the third quarter of 5 cents per share.
