Suncor Energy Inc. has ordered 55 General Electric Co. 1.6 megawatt wind turbines for a Canadian wind power project in Alberta, GE said Tuesday.

GE will deliver the turbines to the site of the Wintering Hills project, which is located about 125 km northeast of Calgary, in the second quarter of 2011.

The wind energy project is 70 per cent owned by Suncor, Canada's biggest oil company, and 30 per cent by diversified mining group Teck Resources . The 88 MW project is expected to generate enough power for 35,000 homes.
