Party photos of the week: Writers’ Trust of Canada gala
It’s literary season in Toronto and the festivities continued on Thursday night at the 28th annual Writers’ Trust of Canada gala. Held at the Four Seasons Hotel, more than 400 of the country’s best and brightest in publishing and philanthropy gathered to eat, drink and be merry in the name of the written word. With a guest writer at every table, it became quite the contest during a “CanLit quiz” over dinner; team Facebook came out on top, but it was the ever-eccentric Bruce Bailey who won for knowing the most obscure answer of the night – that Michael Ondaatje’s brother was a bobsledder of Canada’s Olympic team. Hosted by CBC’s Gillian Deacon and actor Zaib Shaikh, the black-tie evening raised $220,000 for the Writers’ Trust of Canada programs that include literary awards, grants, and scholarships for Canadian writers. parties@globeandmail.com
