Your association with Tuscany, if you have one, may be more closely linked with another product made by this superb estate's owners, terracotta roof tiles. The Manetti family was centuries into that business when they took over Fontodi in 1968. This is one of the most reliable premium Chianti producers as far as I am concerned. The 2012 touches all the bases. It's supple, silky and redolent of cherry, violet and vanilla, with well-tuned acidity and a moderately tannic backbone. Fine now, it should improve with up to eight years in the cellar. Various prices in Alberta, $29.90 in Quebec.
