On Wednesday Oct. 22 Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was shot and killed by an armed attacker while standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. The gunman then entered the main Parliament building where more shots were fired and where he was eventually shot and killed. As the events unfolded most of downtown Ottawa was in a state of lockdown as police scrambled to secure the area. These compelling images look back at the events of the week and the aftermath of the attack.
