A 68-year-old southeastern B.C. woman has been found alive and well, sitting on a tree stump along a remote Cranbrook-area logging road, three days after she vanished.

Charlotte Burch suffers from the early stages of dementia, but still drives.

She vanished Monday afternoon while making the six kilometre drive from her home in Wardner, about 40 kilometres south of Cranbrook, to a family campsite on Lake Koocanusa.

Her vehicle, still with gas in the tank, was found Wednesday on a remote logging road between Wardner and Moyie.

Ms. Burch's disappearance sparked an intense ground and water search with search and rescue teams from all over the East Kootenay, and police dogs from as far away as Chilliwack.

Crews were wrapping up and returning to their command post at around 8:30 Thursday night when they spotted Ms. Burch, dehydrated but in good condition, about six kilometres from where her car was found.
