An elderly Vancouver Island couple has been found safe on B.C.'s North Coast.

Prince Rupert RCMP confirm 82-year-old John Fuller and his wheelchair-bound, 77-year-old wife, Margaret, are fine.

Apparently a misunderstanding between the couple and other family members led to concern that the Fullers were missing on the drive between Prince Rupert and Smithers.

Family members contacted police after the Fullers missed a planned gathering in Smithers on Monday evening and then did not show up at a scheduled meeting point in the Bulkley Valley town on Tuesday morning.

They contacted relatives this morning.
