They were David to the record industry Goliath.
It was 2002, and Reprise Records had just rejected Wilco’s latest album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, for not being marketable enough. In the legal skirmish that followed, the Chicago band emerged with the rights to the record and streamed it on their website. It ended up selling more than half a million copies.
Since then, the beloved band has toured the world, landed Grammies, been the subject of an award-winning documentary and influenced countless other acts with their intelligent and poetic brand of alt-rock, which deftly borrows from roots, country, summery pop, jazz, psychedelia and electronic music – to name a few – and never fails to charm.
On their current tour, the band is treating fans to songs from their latest album, The Whole Love, as well as selections from their 18-year back catalogue; no two nights are alike.
