Utility crews have restored power to more than half of those left in the dark by violent winds that caused outages across Ontario.
Hydro One says 39,000 customers have their power back this afternoon, out of roughly 70,000 affected by the outages.
The company says about 4,400 customers – primarily in central Ontario – may remain without electricity overnight.
It is reminding the public to stay clear of downed wires for safety reasons.
Powerful wind gusts of up to 100 kilometres an hour felled power lines, tree branches and scaffolding throughout much of southern Ontario.
Meanwhile, Environment Canada has called off a wind warning issued for the region.
