A hospital in Kingston, Ont., is battling an outbreak of Clostridium difficile.
Kingston General Hospital officials say they have discovered 12 new cases of the infection over the last month.
The steps the hospital has taken to prevent a further spread include new hand washing and equipment cleaning procedures.
C. difficile is an infection acquired in hospitals that can lead to diarrhea among those who contract it.
There have been a number of outbreaks of the infection at hospitals in other areas of the province.
Hospitals that are part of the Niagara Health System in southern Ontario have reported at least 31 C. difficile-related deaths since the end of May.
The provincial government announced earlier this week that a supervisor would be appointed to take control of the Niagara Health System.
