A 61-year-old school teacher is facing sex charges over allegations related to one of his former students.

Ontario Provincial Police say they began investigating the case in September of this year after receiving a complaint that a child had been sexually assaulted.

They say they later determined that the complaint dated back to September 2004 and continued through the rest of that school year.

They say David Carswell was a teacher in Barrie, Ont., at that time.

Police arrested Carswell in London, Ont., this morning and charged him with one count each of sexual assault, sexual exploitation and sexual interferance.

He is due to appear in court today.
