Health officials in Winnipeg say a hospital pharmacist snooped through the personal information of 56 people.
The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority has not named the pharmacist, but says the individual was working at the Grace Hospital.
The health records belonged to patients not in the pharmacist's care.
Authority vice-president Real Cloutier says all the patients have been notified, the Manitoba ombudsman has been informed and the pharmacist is no longer working.
The private information in the electronic E-Chart system included names, addresses, drug prescriptions, lab results and more.
Cloutier says the breach was detected during one of the audits done regularly to check for unauthorized access.
Recent changes to Manitoba's Personal Health Information Act make it an offence to consult health records unless it's required for treatment.
