One morning I do want to wake-up and say something legitimately positive about Michael Ignatieff. This coming from someone who did enjoy following Iggy's career when we both lived in London. By nature, I am not a nattering nabob of negativism. Generally, my disposition is more sunlight than dark cloud but the Opposition Leader often leaves me in an overcast mood.

Jane Taber's story this morning has my dander up. Apart from all the usual jiggery-pokery garbage about whether or not there will be an election, we learn that Iggy's team would like him to be PM for the Olympics. Who knew Iggy wanted to be an Olympian? He'd be sort of an Olympic curiosity somewhere between Eddie the Eagle and the Jamaican bobsled team, though without the warmth of both.

Yesterday at his news conference, Iggy didn't talk about his dreams of gold for Vancouver, rather he waxed on about principle. Principle he said would determine the choice made about continuing to support the government or not. I was sad no one in Sudbury asked if that was the same principle he exercised in fighting for EI reform?

CTV is running some excellent pre-Olympic commercials entitled "I Believe." Most of the ones I have seen focus on our Olympic athletes and their dreams for Vancouver 2010. Part of me wishes I could believe Ignatieff and accept his dreams were based on principle but sadly, as reinforced with the Olympic admission by the Toronto gang, it is all ego and self-interest with the guy.
