Fire crews are responding to a large grass fire on the west end of the Toronto Islands, about 400 metres south of Hanlan's Point ferry docks close to Billy Bishop Airport.

Captain Adrian Ratushniak said Toronto Fire Services received reports of smoke at about 8:39 p.m. near Mermaid's Cafe and just past a clothing-optional beach.

Two trucks are on the scene fighting the fire, reportedly involving bush and trees in the area, with four more apparatus on the way via ferry.

No injuries have been reported.

There was no early indication of the extent of the fire or damage caused as smoke impeded aerial vision above the scene.

This was the second incident of fire in three days on the islands, which has designated fire pits requiring a permit.
