A rare instance of gun violence early Sunday on College Street has put one young man in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Just before 1 a.m., police arrived outside the Crown & Tiger bar at College and Lippincott to find a man who had been shot in the neck. He was taken to St. Michael's Hospital in critical condition. He remained there in the same state Sunday night, said Staff Sergeant Steve French of 14 Division.
Jessica Crupi, a 20-year-old Ontario College of Art and Design student, was at the Crown & Tiger Bar for a friend's birthday party when she slipped out at 12:45 a.m. to find an ATM. She heard three pops "like firecrackers" and suddenly the crowd outside bolted in her direction, while three others who stood close to the victim fled west, in the opposite direction.
Ms. Crupi heard a young man scream out "That's my boy!" Her friend ran out soon after and saw the victim face down in a pool of blood as five people knelt by his side before police arrived.
No arrests have been made.
