Police say a motorcyclist is dead after his bike struck two pedestrians in downtown Toronto on Saturday.

Police say the motorcyclist shifted into the curbside lane on Yonge Street, north of Gerrard, to pass a slowing vehicle when he struck a 21-year-old woman who had stepped into the lane.

The man was thrown off his motorcycle, which careened into a second pedestrian.

The 42-year-old motorcyclist was rushed to hospital, but later died of his injuries.

A police news release didn't indicate the nature of the injuries to the pedestrians.
