A security guard was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after he was stabbed repeatedly in the back in a downtown Toronto parking garage.

While originally considered to have life-threatening injuries, reports now say he is expected to recover.

The man was attacked in the underground parking lot beneath Yonge and Dundas Square around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, police said.

Police said they believe several people were attempting to break into cars that were parked in the lot when the security guard came across them.

Three people are in custody.
