Provincial police say all lanes of southbound Highway 400 heading into Toronto have reopened after a dump truck hit an overhead sign early Thursday, forcing closure of the busy route.

The southbound lanes were closed (at King Road) for several hours during the morning commute while road crews worked to repair the sign (at Teston Road).

Police say the dump truck had its box elevated when it hit the sign at about 5 a.m. and that the broken sign was in danger of falling into the lanes below.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says police are searching for the truck, which stopped for a short while after the collision, but then left the scene.
