Yemeni security officials say three explosive devices have blown u p outside the houses of Shiite rebel leaders in the capital Sanaa.

The officials said the explosions early Monday damaged several houses and injured eight people whose identities have not been disclosed.

Five other explosive devices in Sanaa have been dismantled, the officials said on condition of anonymity because they aren't authorized to brief the media.

The officials did not say who was behind the explosions, but the Shiite rebels — known as Houthis — have spent months battling both local al-Qaeda militants and Sunni tribesmen backed by the Islamist Islah Party.

Opponents of the Houthis, who captured the capital in September, accuse them of being a proxy for Shiite powerhouse Iran.
