Collage Collage celebrates the shift toward homes designed to reflect and inspire the whole family.

After working in galleries, museums and alongside other artists, Erin Boniferro dreamt of creating a space for families that "could always be about making something great." Collage Collage is the realization of that vision – a place that "strives to uphold the tremendous creative abilities of children in surroundings that adults find equally stimulating, provoking and above all, inspiring."

This year, Collage Collage will be part of the IDSwest Modern Kid exhibit, inspiring families to reimagine what it means to learn and create together. "We're honoured to be acknowledged as a place that people look to for art and design in their children's lives," says Boniferro.

One of the primary shifts in home design is the movement away from children's spaces being seen as separate and towards homes designed to reflect the whole family, says Boniferro. "We're no longer buying artwork for children, for example – we're buying artwork suitable for a home with children in it. Adults often read books to children, and the most magical books are those in which both the reader and the listener are considered. We feel the same about artwork and art supplies."

By nourishing creative environments, Collage Collage aims to integrate creativity into the everyday lives of families, she says. "We offer opportunities for children and adults to find creative spaces in their homes and to take the experiences we create into their daily practice.

"There's a lot of value in this way of learning – a little bit all the time in our day-to-day lives sort of takes the pressure off of having to start getting creative with your children. It's more about little hands and big hands, making together."

Modern Kid is an exhibit in contemporary design for children. Nurseries, kids' rooms, play rooms and rec rooms represent key spaces in the home, and are a booming market for designers and product manufacturers. This exhibit explores the best in innovative designs that foster child development, materials that are organic and non-toxic, and products that are multifunctional and uniquely crafted.

Along with the interactive Collage, Collage exhibit, Modern Kid will feature West Coast Kids, Italian children's furniture studio Nidi, Crocodile Baby and more.
