Target recently celebrated a major milestone in the company's history opening an unprecedented 124 stores across ten provinces in 2013.  In addition to bringing Canadians a one-stop shopping destination with high quality, trend right merchandise at unbeatable prices, Target has also brought its very popular REDcard Rewards program.

For a number of years, REDcard Rewards has been generating positive feedback from Target guests in the United States, and the more than 30,000 Canadians with a US REDcard.  With the expansion into Canada, Canadian shoppers no longer have to make the trek across the border to shop at their coveted Target store - they can now shop in their own backyard.  And with the launch of the Target REDcard in Canada, they can also enjoy 5% instant savings, each and every time they shop.

"Our guests love the incredible value and simplicity of our REDcard Rewards," says Livia Zufferli, vice president, Marketing, Target Canada.  "There is no tricky formula or cumbersome reimbursement process.  Whether guests are shopping for the latest fashions for the whole family, home décor products or groceries, the savings is an instant 5% on almost everything in the store, right at the checkout."

In Canada, guests have two options to choose from including a Target Debit Card which links to the cardholder's existing chequing card and can be used only when shopping at Target stores in Canada, and a Target RBC Master Card that can be used wherever MasterCard is accepted.  Both cards offer instant 5% savings at Target.  In addition, when a Target RBC MasterCard is used on purchases outside of Target stores guests will earn 0.5% for every $100 spent, which will go toward Target GiftCard Rewards. The gift cards can be easily redeemed once the rewards balance is $10 and will be automatically issued once the balance reaches $100.  Target GiftCard Rewards are offered in $10, $25, $50 or $100 denominations.

Target is well-known for providing its guests with unbeatable value and this holiday season is no exception.  With stores now open across the country, Canadians have an exciting new place to find everything they need for the holidays.  Zufferli offered these tips for Canadians looking to maximize their rewards program heading into this fun, but often expensive time of year.

  • Choose a one-stop shop - Save time and gas by selecting a one-stop destination that has everything for the holiday season at unbeatable prices, as well as additional instant loyalty rewards.   5% savings makes a big difference when purchasing everything from indoor and outdoor décor, great gifts and the latest holiday apparel for the whole family.

  • Collect rewards on all holiday purchases - Whether filling up on gas to visit friends and family or booking hotel rooms and flights, choose a loyalty program, like the Target RBC MasterCard REDcard that offers valuable rewards on every purchase made on the card.  REDcard credit card holders can use the valuable gift card rewards for post-holiday purchases – a time when wallets are thinner and saving money is key.

  • Pay off your credit cards - To ensure you are maximizing your money this holiday season, avoid interest charges by ensuring purchases made on a credit card are paid off during the account statement period.
