Canadian home renovation retailer Rona Inc. beat expectations as its adjusted profits from continuing operations rose to $17.3-million in the fourth quarter from $4.6-million a year ago, helped by 6-per-cent growth in same-store retail sales. Including one-time items such as restructuring charges, the Quebec-based company earned $5.4-million attributable to shareholders, up from a $1.1-million loss a year ago. Total revenue from continuing operations was $971.3-million, up from $941.1-million in the 2013 quarter.
