The Toronto Blue Jays have struck quickly with their 2012 draft class with Monday's announcement that they have signed 22 of the 44 players selected.
That number includes high school outfielder D.J. Davis, the team's top pick who was chosen in the first round with the 17th selection overall last week by the Blue Jays.
The American League team also said it has come to terms with seven non-drafted free agents.
Davis, 17, is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound athlete who played for Stone County High School in Wiggins, Mississippi.
The speedy left-handed hitter appeared in 26 games for the Tomcats this season, batting .373 (25-67) with four doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 27 RBI.
Two of the drafted players who were signed were Canadians -- left-handed pitcher Shane Dawson from Lethbridge Community College in Alberta, Toronto's 17th-round pick; and Shaun Valeriote, an infielder at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ont., who was chosen in the 39th round.
