PGA Tour Canada
Longtime PGA Tour executive Jeff Monday has been named the President of PGA TOUR Canada.
Monday, a former senior vice-president with the developmental Web.com Tour, spent the past year evaluating the former Canadian Tour prior to the PGA Tour assuming operational control. PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem called it a natural progression for the 24-year golf veteran.
"Jeff brings a wealth of experience to his new role as President of PGA TOUR Canada," said Finchem said. "In leading our exploratory efforts to determine our future role with the Canadian Tour, he gained extensive knowledge and understanding of the Tour and its existing tournaments, and the potential to grow professional golf in Canada."
Monday says he expects to unveil the 2013 PGA Tour Canada schedule in late January. There will be a minimum of eighth tournaments next year, starting the first week of June, with a goal of expanding the calendar to as many as 12 to 13 events. Each tournament will have a minimum purse of $150,000 and all events will be Canadian-based. Starting next year, the top five players on the Order of Merit will earn playing privileges on the Web.com Tour, while the next five will be exempt into the finals of the Tour's new qualifying school format.
"I am very excited to have this opportunity to help direct the strategic direction and growth of PGA TOUR Canada," said Monday,who has an extensive background in all facets of PGA Tour marketing, sponsorship and tournament operations. "It became very evident during my visits with tournaments, sponsors, volunteers and players, the potential this Tour has and just how passionate the country is about golf. We have a lot of work to do, but all of the elements for success are there."
