The NHL has suspended Columbus Blue Jackets forward Jared Boll three games for an illegal hit to the head of Anaheim Ducks forward Patrick Maroon.

The incident occurred early in the second period when the league says Boll drove his right shoulder directly into the side of Maroon's head while he was playing the puck in a predictable manner. No penalty was called on the play.

"Boll unneccesarily elevates into the hit in a way that results in a direct hit to Maroon's head," the league said in a video announcement describing the decision to suspend Boll.

Boll will lose more than $27,000 in salary as a result of the suspension.

Boll is a repeat offender, having been previously suspended and fined twice, both for illegal hits to the head as well.

Boll is the 10th player to be suspended this season for an illegal hit to the head.
