Ryan Getzlaf's fluke goal at 8:53 of the third period broke a 2-2 tie Friday night as the Anaheim Ducks staged a third period comeback to beat the Calgary Flames 6-3.

Less than three minutes after Francois Beauchemin tied it 2-2, Getzlaf's slapshot from the blue-line missed the net but caromed sharply off the end boards, deflecting into the net off the back of the leg of goaltender Jonas Hiller.

Kyle Palmeiri scored the eventual winner, making it 4-2 at 11:35. Mikael Backlund mishandled the puck in front of his net and when Hiller couldn't smother it, Palmeiri was right there to jam it in.

Andrew Cogliano, Jakob Silfverberg and Hampus Lindholm — into an empty net — also scored for Anaheim (36-16-7). The scuffling Ducks won for just the second time in its last seven games (2-4-1).

Matt Stajan, Lance Bouma and Sean Monahan, with his 20th of the season, scored for Calgary (32-22-4). After a 2-1-1 homestand, the Flames depart on a seven-game Eastern road trip.

The third period comeback for Anaheim was a page out of the Flames playbook as Calgary leads the league with 10 wins when trailing after two periods. The Ducks rank second after coming back for the eighth time (8-16-0).

The Flames lost for the first time when leading after two periods. They entered the night a perfect 14-0-0.

Up 1-0 after one period, Calgary doubled its lead at 11:02 of the second period on Bouma's 12th goal of the season.

Beauchemin's soft clearing attempt was picked off by Dennis Wideman, who promptly wristed a shot towards the net that Bouma deflected past John Gibson.

Anaheim cut the lead to 2-1 at 15:08 when Corey Perry's shot was stopped but the rebound bounced in off Cogliano as he went to the net.

Calgary took a rare first period lead at 14:50, taking advantage of a mistake from Ducks defenceman Cam Fowler. Fowler's pass up the middle of the slot was intercepted by Joe Colborne, whose initial shot was stopped. Stajan knocked in the rebound for his first goal in 17 games.

Making his fourth consecutive start with Frederik Andersen injured, rookie Josh Gibson made 25 saves to improve to 4-4-0.

Hiller had 32 saves to fall to 19-17-3.
