Flyers defenceman Chris Pronger will undergo surgery on his left knee on Tuesday and will miss a month.

It's been a tough season for Pronger, Philadelphia's captain, who also missed six games with an eye injury.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Peter DeLuca.

"Any time a player has surgery, there's concern, whether he's an older player like Chris or a younger player. I do think Chris is a player that takes good care of himself, looks after himself, does the proper rehabilitation and conditioning to stay in top shape," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "I think this time, the only thing we can go by is what the doctors tell us, and it's just a question of cleaning up some of those bodies.
