Canada missed out on rugby sevens Olympic qualification after falling 21-5 to the United States at the NACRA Sevens Cup final on Sunday.

The United States, as the winner of the Cup, guaranteed itself a place at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

The Americans converted tries from Perry Baker, Danny Barrett and Maka Unufe en route to a 21-point advantage. Harry Jones scored a try for Canada.

Canada, which won its first two games of the day before losing to the United States, has one final chance to qualify for the Games via the repechage tournament, which takes place next year.

Canada started the day with a 36-0 victory over the Cayman Islands in the pool stage. Mike Fuailefau had two tries for the Canadians.

Canada then secured its spot in the Cup final with a 34-0 win over Mexico. John Moonlight starred with a hat-trick of tries – two of which came in the first period.
