A scene from WildlikeMichael Seto

Wildlike

A modest, outdoorsy two-hander set in Alaska stars Bruce Greenwood and Ella Purnell as a middle-aged widower and a teenage runaway – a cross-generational duo rare everywhere but in movies.

Wenders in the Cities

Goethe Films opens up the giant oeuvre of the German auteur Wim Wenders for a retrospective road trip of sorts. The six-film affair includes screenings of The State of Things, Wings of Desire, Land of Plenty, Tokyo-Ga, Notebook on Cities and Clothes and Alice in the Cities, a black and white tour of the Rhineland and middle America that happens to include footage of Chuck Berry performing Memphis, Tennessee in Toronto. (Sept. 28 to Oct. 6, TIFF Bell Lightbox)
