Norm Macdonald

With his offbeat manner and slurred speech, comedian and sports enthusiast Norm Macdonald could be suspected of being punch-drunk or suffering from a concussion. Such is not the case, but Macdonald, who hosts the upcoming Comedy Central series Sports Show with Norm Macdonald, does have strong views on the subject of violence in hockey.

What do you think about the rise of concussions in professional hockey?

"People don't understand that in hockey your life is on the line. NHL players are skating 40 or 50 miles per hour, being boarded and speared. So you have to fight. When they clamped down on fighting, that's when these head shots started taking place. I never got crosschecked into the boards as a kid, though. I wish had been, actually, so I'd have something to blame for the way that I am, instead of just being a dumb guy."
