Globe and Mail theatre critic J. Kelly Nestruck has won the Nathan Cohen Award for theatre criticism in the long-review category, an honour handed out every two years by the Canadian Theatre Critics Association.
The award, to be presented at a luncheon in Toronto at a time to be determined, is for an essay Nestruck wrote on the revival of three Arthur Miller works, which appeared in The Globe on June 3.
Nestruck, originally from Winnipeg, is a second-time Cohen Award winner. He previously won in 2012, for his essay on playwright George Bernard Shaw, also published in The Globe. The award is named in honour of the former Toronto Star theatre critic.
One other writer was recognized for his work by the CTCA. Steve Fisher, a writer for the Torontoist website, has won the Nathan Cohen Award in the short-review category for his review of the documentary theatre work Small Axe.
This year's awards judge was Michelle MacArthur, a drama professor at the University of Windsor.
