A 1970 Chrysler Hurst 300 convertible known as the ‘Parade Float’ - a one-of-a-kind piece of NASCAR history - is for sale on eBay. The car used to appear at race tracks across America as a promotional vehicle and featured a massive Hurst shifter attached to a platform. That platform is where Miss Hurst Golder Shifter, Linda Vaughn, stood and waved to race crowds with one hand as she held the shifter with the other while the car cruised by the grandstand. Vaughn is listed on the Legends of NASCAR website and is even mentioned in Tom Wolfe’s famous 1965 Esquire article ‘The last American hero is Junior Johnson. Yes!’ “The Life Symbol of stock-car racing! Yes! Linda, every luscious morsel of Linda,” wrote Wolfe. The car itself is powered by a massive 7.2-litre V-8 engine pumping out 375 horsepower. Only about 500 Chrysler Hurst 300 coupes were produced, but this is the only factory-built Hurst-edition convertible. The eBay page notes the location of the car has been in question for years, but was found to still be owned by the family of an avid Chrysler collector who purchased the car in 1976. After a nostalgia appearance with Vaughn at the Bristol Motor Speedway in 1993, the car was put in storage. It is listed as being in good condition, but needs some detailing. The asking price is $150,000 but it has so far failed to attract an offer.
