Get ready to meet more than a few girls named Elsa in the near future.
The U.K. website BabyCentre reports that the freakish success of the animated feature Frozen has parents suddenly naming infant daughters after the movie's icy heroine.
According to the site's latest poll, Elsa has stealthily crept onto the list of the top 100 baby names in 2014 and currently ranks in 88th position.
While it remains to be seen whether Elsa will catch on similarly on this side of the pond, the ongoing public fascination with Frozen continues.
Since the film's release in November, Frozen has become the highest-grossing animated film of all time, with box-office revenues of $1.2-billion (U.S.) and still climbing. It's also become the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time – ranking right up there with Titanic and Avatar.
Earlier this week, a video clip of a father singing along to the Frozen anthem Let It Go during a performance by the Boston Pops orchestra caught people's attention. And at the furthest possible other end of the spectrum, the grunge-rock band Pearl Jam recently broke into Let It Go at a concert in Milan, Italy (quite possibly because lead vocalist Eddie Vedder has two young daughters at home).
According to the website NameTrends.net, which tracks the most popular names in the U.S., Elsa was the 528th most popular girls' name last year, with one in approximately 34,000 babies receiving the moniker.
But that's likely to change in the near future courtesy of shrewd corporate synergy by the Disney corporation.
In mid-May, regular viewers of the popular ABC primetime series Once Upon a Time were surprised when a live-action version of the Elsa character suddenly showed up on the show's third-season finale.
The day after, Once Upon a Time executive producers Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz confirmed that Elsa will be a regular character for the show's fourth season. (Disney owns the ABC network.)
Elsa was played by an unidentified actress on that fleeting occasion, ABC announced earlier this week that it has found the perfect actress to step into the role.
As reported by People magazine, Australian actress Georgina Haig will play the living, breathing version of Elsa.
Possibly because, as is so important in the world of Disney, her eyes have it.
