Though the kimono is traditionally formal to a fault (try catching the bus with floor-length sleeves), the modern kimono-wrap top is a surprisingly versatile invention. Whether worn open over a silky, swishy camisole or cinched on its own over trousers, the options are as limitless as Mt. Fuji is tall. Here's how to narrow them down for the office.

1. You'll want to layer one over an undergarment, as Marc Jacobs did (above left). A soft button-up blouse works for the advanced class, but a camisole works for everyone. Avoid too risqué a look by always wearing a bra underneath.

2. A silk belt can look much too literal. Avoid the geisha homage by cinching with a leather belt or leave it loose and open as a cover-up.

3. To channel Jacobs' chilled out vibe, opt for a pair of wide-leg trousers. Not only are they easy and on trend, they'll balance out the look if you cinch the wrap closed.
