pick of the week

The term "harvest ale" carries no strong technical significance. Barley and hops – they're both part of the harvest, and they're integral to most beers. And you won't find strong spicy characters in this delicious brew to suggest pumpkin pie or Halloween treats. What you will encounter is something subtly extraordinary. Rich-amber in colour, with a lingering layer of light foam, it's creamy, round and simultaneously invigorating. Succulent, come-hither orchard fruit finds its opposite number in disciplined, hopped-up bitterness. Great weight on the palate and a terrific flavour arc. Fine for aromatic fall fare roasted with herbs in the oven. Various prices in Alberta.
