Spain's prominent producer Miguel Torres was an early and prescient investor in Chile, setting up shop in 1979 during the Pinochet dictatorship. Idyllic grape-growing weather was the big draw, but Torres was also instrumental in pushing the industry forward, notably by importing then-novel temperature-controlled fermentation tanks and quality French-oak barrels. The Santa Digna line represents good value, and this reserve cabernet is classically Chilean. Full-bodied and smooth, it offers notes of plum, currant, chocolate and spice along with a refreshing hint of eucalyptus. Good for grilled or roasted beef.
