Edmonton police say they have found a three-year-old boy who was left with a bystander when a family member was taken away in an ambulance.

Officers say the boy is safe and was not harmed.

He was last seen about 1:30 a.m. in the city's northeast.

Police spokeswoman Anna Batchelor says the boy had been outside with a male relative when the man suffered a medical episode.

An emergency crew took the man to hospital and a female bystander took the child into her care.
