Toronto's medical officer of health has issued an extreme cold weather alert.

Dr. David McKeown issued the alert this morning, with temperatures tonight forecast to reach -14 C along with winds gusting to 50 kilometres per hour.

People are asked to check on those who would be most affected by the cold weather, such as the elderly.

As well, the alert triggers cold weather services for homeless people.
