Slovakia goaltender Denis Godla clears the puckPaul Chiasson/The Canadian Press

One day after he was chased from the net after giving up five goals, Denis Godla was the difference leading Slovakia to a 2-1 upset over Finland at the world junior hockey championship on Saturday.

After being blown out in the tournament opener 8-0 by the host nation Canada, the Slovaks managed to put two past Jusse Saros to shock the defending champions.

Mikko Rantanen opened the scoring for Finland seven minutes into the first period before Peter Cehlarik erased the deficit on the power-play two minutes later. Matus Holenda notched what proved to be the game winner six minutes into the second as Godla withstood several barrages, stopping 37 of the 38 shots he faced for the victory.
