Nunavut’s The Jerry Cans head to Toronto’s Lula Lounge

A jerry can is a rugged fuel container made from pressed steel. The Jerry Cans, the Nunavut-based folk-rockers, are something like that, too.

On the band's latest release, Inuusiq/Life, we hear robust roots-rock, gruff Inuk throat singing, beery Celtic punk, occasional moments of reggae and an unfortunate enthusiasm for the "Woah-oh-oh-oh" refrain that currently runs through popular music virus-like. Lyrics are mostly presented in Inuktitut, often with a sing-along invitation. It is party music, no translation required.

A hit on the summer festival circuit, the Jerry Cans tour relentlessly. It's a long way from Iqaluit to Toronto's Lula Lounge. There's plenty in this curious ensemble's tank.
