At the open: TSX moves higher

The Toronto stock market inched higher in early trading while oil prices moved lower.

The S&P/TSX composite index gained 23.44 points to 12,617.71 shortly after open.

Information technology stocks were mostly higher, with the sector rising 0.8 per cent, as BlackBerry (TSX:BB) shares gained 3.1 per cent a day after it announced it was exploring its "strategic options," which could include a sale.

The September crude contract slid 15 cents to $105.96 a barrel.

December gold bullion dropped $5.90 to $1,328.30 an ounce, while September copper increased less than a cent to $3.31 a pound.

The Canadian dollar was down 0.24 of a cent to 96.82 cents US.
