Customer demand at the recently opened Target Corp. stores in Ontario is so overwhelming that it hasn't been able to keep up with demand, the chain's senior vice-president of merchandising says.

Target, which opened its first three test stores in Canada on March 5, will open 17 more outlets on Tuesday and four on March 28, all in Ontario.

"We opened them a little earlier than we would have thought typically," said John Morioka, senior vice-president of merchandising at Target Canada, said after a media tour of the East York store in Toronto on Monday morning. "We'll be better prepared for these store openings. But I won't guarantee anything as the response has been overwhelmingly positive."
