Vancouver design studio Barter's Revolve collection, launched last September, is designed to tell the story of the Canadian West Coast. Crafted from B.C. red cedar, the modules can be stacked and arranged (they all share a 15-by-12.5-inch base size) to create everything from simple planters, using a simple terracotta add-on, to monolithic columns, a modern take on the red cedars they're made from.
But designer Kenneth Torrance takes the inspiration one step further with a soon-to-launch charred version of the Revolve module inspired by the natural process of scorched trees.
"They act as a sustainable canvas to reconnect people to Western red cedar as a valuable resource, and to open up the thinking around natural processes such as weathering, burning and tinting from different natural elements," Torrance says.

He promises future iterations of Revolve will continue to unfold the Canadian West Coast's story.
